Niles Kauffman, OFM, Cap. Lecture Title: A Franciscan Response to Racism and Fear of the “Other” in Today’s World

Dan Horan, OFM will talk about our current climate and how we can respond in a way that reflects our Franciscan values and the heritage of the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi. Please join us for this inspiring talk and meaningful discussion! More about our speaker: Daniel P. Horan, OFM, is a Franciscan friar who serves on the faculty of the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago. He is a columnist for America magazine and the author of several books including the award-winning The Franciscan Heart of Thomas Merton: A New Look at the Spiritual Influence on his Life, Thought, and Writing (Ave Maria Press, 2014). His newest book, due out this fall, is a collection of essays titled God is Not Fair and other Reasons for Gratitude. He is the author of more than eighty popular and scholarly articles. He is also a frequent lecturer and retreat director around the world, and has taught at Boston College, Siena College, and St. Bonaventure University. Peace, Sean T. Lansing, Ph.D. Chief Mission Integration Officer Cardinal Stritch University Tuesday (12/13) a few of us are gathering to “staff” a fraternity offering of support and cocoa for students on day 2 of finals. Deb, Laura and Art will be there. It runs 6-8:30pm. If anyone is available and would like to simply socialize with us / others we welcome you. For Wednesday’s gathering Paul has put together a formation piece on the crèche. It will extend to its origin and explore its meaning then and now.
Reminder – any interested in purchasing a copy of the new initial formation guide, which has fantastic ongoing formation material as well, then bring cash/check (~$21). Art will bring the book again to review. We will finish up the final reflections in To Live as Francis Lived in our Initial Formation gathering on Tuesday, November, 29, 2016. We meet at 6:15 in the Board Room.
Our fraternal gathering is on Wednesday, October 12, beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel, then moving to the Board Room by 6:20 p.m. We continue our discussion of St. Clare and Catholic Social Teaching.
Next Sunday – October 9th – the fraternity will be participating in the annual CROP Walk (Information about the organization can be found at: http://www.crophungerwalk.org/milwaukeewi/Static/About-Us)
LOCATION McKinley Marina 1750 N Lincoln Memorial Drive Milwaukee, WI The walk starts: 1:30 pm; Registration begins at 12:15. Art is going to be there at 1pm. Anyone looking to join up with the fraternity can find me at the northeast side of the large registration tent. Our fraternity will be serving at St. Ben's Community Meal Program with St. Ben's Parish. See Charlie when you arrive.
